Deirdré Kruger

Associate Prof Kruger is the Head of Research and Laboratories in the Wits

Department of Surgery. She has a PhD in Molecular Medicine from St George's, University of London UK, and she is a NRF C2 rated scientist. She loves research and works at the intersection of biochemistry, molecular medicine and translational research in surgery, particularly in patients with cancer (mainly hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers) or vascular disease.

Biostatistics is another passion of hers; she is currently the Working Group

Chair for Statistics on the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Global

Surgery's Education and Training Committee. She is an Associate Editor on the accredited Wits Journal of Clinical Medicine and also supervises and examines many postgraduate degrees
